Acumen Photography News: Saturday 17 March 2012 We picked a less than brilliant night for a portrait photography shoot. We met the gorgeous Jackie at Canberra's famous merry-go-round in Garema Place with plans for some magazine-style fashion photography as the lights came on in the urban setting. The very popular 'SkyFire' fireworks spectacular made parking in the centre of the city even more challenging than usual but we made it to our photography location before the last of the daylight faded away. The sound of the Roulettes aerobatic troupe overhead as they performed for the SkyFire audience provided an unusual backdrop to our photography. Unfortunately the beautiful trees of Garema Place and City Walk made photographing the planes in flight impossible. With no strong Irish heritage, we’d forgotten it was St Patrick's Day when we set the date for the photo shoot and a heavy flow of green-clad revellers making their way toward Canberra's best-known Irish pub made our photography shoot interesting. We managed to get a few good portrait images before calling it a night and only minutes after getting back to our cars it started to rain. Great timing! Thursday 15 March 2012 Steve had a great time at the launch of the 2012/2013 edition of The Entertainment Book, held at the Australian National University's Mt Stromlo Observatory—what an amazing photography location that is! The Entertainment Book is a very popular fundraising tool featuring deals and discounts from some of the best businesses in Canberra—including Acumen Photography, of course—and the launch was attended by some of Canberra's most deserving charities and worthy causes. Steve took the opportunity to offer his event photography services to some of these hard-working organisations and is looking forward to photographing upcoming galas, balls and fundraising events.
